The Warriors went through not one, but two tunnels for their matchup against the undefeated Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils Wednesday night. The team has been plagued with injuries and illnesses which has led to adjustments needing to be made on the field leading to younger players such as Mia Mastro, Mia Proscdocimo, and Ashley Hetrick getting some Varsity time.
The Blue Devils came out strong against the Warriors and were able to close out the first quarter with a 6-0 lead. After the first quarter, the Warrior defense made some adjustments that helped hold the Blue Devils to four goals in the second. Goaltender, Madison Hagan, guarded the cage against the fierce firepower of the Blue Devils offense. The Blue Devils controlled the lead at the half by ten points.
Annabelle Aquino, Gianna Botti, Adalyn Hawk, and Mary Brobst were able to force the Blue Devils to turn the ball over on separate occasions, but the Blue Devils defense was a well oiled machine and and didn’t let up any goals. Ayla Moffa weaved her way around the field looking for an opportunity to score, but the Blue Devils defense was hard to get past. Towards the end of the third quarter, Adalyn Hawk and Annabelle Aquino were able to gain control of the ball off of the draw which led to a quick goal by A. Aquino.
The score didn’t reflect how well the girls played defensively against such a high level team. The Warriors headed home with a 15-2 loss against the Blue Devils after a last minute free position goal by Georgia Vislocky.
