The second round of WPIAL playoffs commenced tonight with the Warriors welcoming the Blackhawk Cougars onto the field. It was a heated matchup straight out of the gate. Sophia Green got the ball rolling when she planted the first goal of the night into the net. Avery Bosack and Georgia Vislocky each followed up with a goal, giving PT the lead. Annabelle Aquino managed to sneak in a twizzler as the Blackhawk defense descended upon her. Ayla Moffa had the last goal of the quarter bringing the score to a 5-4.
The second quarter proved to be as much of a contest as the first. It was a battle of physicality and the Warriors came out on top. Defensive Midfielder, Adalyn Hawk, soared over the field as she locked down the Cougars number one offensive player. Defender, Mary Brobst, came in clutch with two huge interceptions that turned in the favor of the Warriors, giving the offensive end of the field an opportunity to score. Versatile midfielder/defender, Maura Spadone held her stance and positioned herself strong against the Blackhawk offense while defenders Ceci Doughty and Gianna Botti contained Blackhawk’s high powered offense. Bosack had a sweet assist to Sophia Green to kick off the quarter. Attacker, Georgia Vislocky, scored a clutch one on one goal followed by a well timed assist to Lily Crenshaw. With a score of 8-6, Crenshaw landed another one in the net with an assist from Bosack, bringing the score to 9-7 at the half.
Blackhawk entered the third quarter with a man down for the remainder of the game. The girls headed back on the field after the half roaring and ready to go against the high pressure Cougars. Annabelle Aquino, Ayla Moffa, and Sophia Green added to the point total in the third quarter to bring the score to 12-11 with a PT lead.
The final quarter, much like the rest of the game showed to be a battle to the finish, with each team vying for the win. Aquino drew multiple free positions and pushed her way to the net to score 2 more goals for her team. Goaltender, Madison Hagan, utilized her quick decision making skills to help fend off the Cougars. The game winner at 1:35 was scored by Senior captain, Sophia Green, with an assist from Ayla Moffa. The Warriors move on to play the Mars Fightin’ Planets on Monday, May 20th, at Shaler, 7:45pm in the WPIAL semi-finals!
